Beginner Isopods

New to keeping isopods? Our Beginner Isopods collection features hardy, active and easy-to-care-for species that are ideal for starting your first colony.

Easy Isopods for Beginners

Porcellio laevis “Dairy Cow” A popular beginner isopod known for being active, adaptable and easy to feed and care for. Their distinctive black-and-white pattern also makes them a great addition to a display or bioactive enclosure.

Porcellio laevis “Orange” Another excellent beginner choice, with bright orange colouration and the same hardy, active nature that makes Porcellio laevis a great species for new keepers.

Cubaris murina sp. “Glacier” is a beautiful white Cubaris isopod with striking pale colouration. Their clean, almost icy appearance makes them particularly eye-catching — like little Tic Tacs in a display or bioactive enclosure. Glacier is considered one of the easier Cubaris isopods to care for.
